I started as a lowly apprentice in the big five star hotel in my town. And the coffee hotel wide was an abomination. Drip filter, the cheapest around and just awful.
I was assigned to the breakfast shift and I remember banging on about how bad the coffee was.
My F&B Director didn’t care. He had garnered the best deal with the supplier and the GM loved him for his cost saving measures.
Anyway, I moved on to another of my town’s five stars, and there the GM was really hands on. I said that the coffee was crap there as well, and he agreed. Before I knew it, he had installed big barista machines everywhere and all the staff had trained in good coffee. He insisted that no extra charge would be required for a really good coffee.
The hotel was soon the highest rated in my town and although I think it was probably more due to the GM being focused on the highest quality all across the board, I do remember seeing a lot of feedback about how good the coffee was.
